City’s GDP Grows 8.0% to Over RMB1,534 Bln in 2018

Last year, Chengdu's gross domestic product (GDP) reached RMB1,534.28 billion, rising by 8.0% year on year at a comparable price, and 1.4% higher than the national average.
The city's added value of the primary industry was nearly RMB52.26 billion, a year-on-year increase of 3.6%; that of the secondary industry close to RMB651.62 billion, a year-on-year increase of 7.0%; and that of the tertiary industry roughly RMB830.40 billion, a year-on-year increase of 9.0%.

The city saw 41,000 newly-registered companies in the New Economy and 4 unicorns in 2018.

Continuous Foreign Trade Boom
The city realized a total foreign trade volume of RMB498.32 billion, increasing 26.4% from a year earlier. The export value hit RMB274.69 billion, up 33.0% year on year.
The Chengdu Pilot Free Trade Zone accomplished a foreign direct investment of US$2.69 billion as well as a foreign investment actually utilized of US$7.63 billion, up 44.1% and 17.5% year on year, respectively.

The city started January 1 to offer 144-hour visa-free transit to foreign travelers who meet relevant provisions.
By last year-end, 17 foreign countries had been approved to set up their consular agencies here in the city, which had established a sister-city relationship with 35 foreign cities, as well as a friendly and cooperative tie with 58 ones, and had been home to 285 Fortune Global 500 companies.
In 2018, Chengdu hosted lots of international events, including the World Cities Culture (Tianfu) Symposium and 13th Confucius Institute Conference. It moved up 27 places to 71 worldwide on The World According to GaWC 2018 released by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network (GaWC), and was rated as a Beta+ level city in the Global Cities Index.

Ever-expanding Traffic Networks
By the end of 2018, there had been 355 air links between Chengdu and other cities, including 114 international (regional) ones, topping all of its counterparts in central and western China.
The Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport's annual passenger throughput amounted to 52.95 million, making the city the real "fourth biggest aviation hub" on the Chinese mainland.
In the past year, the airport's number of inbound and outbound passengers was nearly 6 million, a year-on-year rise of 11.0%, including 2.88 million inbound ones, a year-on-year rise of 10.6%.
With the number of international railway stations in foreign countries increasing to 24, the Chengdu International Railway Port ran a total of 2,619 inbound and outbound cargo trains, increasing 158.8% from the prior year and topping all of its peers in the country for 3 consecutive years.
